How OXO Dads are Celebrating Father’s Day

In honor of Father’s Day, we asked OXOnians to tell us about their experience as new dads.

Dan Juda, Engineering

Levi - 7 months

How are you planning on celebrating this Father’s Day?

Hoping Levi cooks me breakfast in bed! JK… I think we’ll probably just spend some quality time together. We can go for a walk, read some books, and Facetime with my dad.

What’s been the best part of becoming a dad?

The smiles can’t be beat! When he sees me walk into the room and gives me a big, mouth open, toothless smile, it’s the BEST.

Any advice for soon-to-be dads?

I don’t really feel qualified to be giving advice because I’m still figuring it all out! I guess just keep an open mind about it all and try to have as much fun with it as possible.

What’s been the most surprising part of becoming a dad?

I didn’t expect to see a personality so early. Levi can barely hold his head up but it already feels like we’re starting to see glimpses of his personality coming through. It’s clear he’s going to be a very energetic and talkative kid even though he’s only making little grunts and squeaks.

How do you celebrate your own Pops? Any family traditions?

We usually just try to spend the day together and play a few games of ping pong.

Austin – 15 months old

How are you planning on celebrating this Father’s Day?

A home cooked family dinner

What’s been the best part of becoming a dad?

Unconditional love and watching him grow has helped me live outside of my own world.

Any advice for soon-to-be dads?

Whatever you think you’re doing wrong, it probably is. But it's ok, they’re more resilient and forgiving than you think.

What’s been the most surprising part of becoming a dad?

Aside from the amount of poop, pee, and snot that can be produced from something so tiny, is how much I don’t care because he makes me that happy.

How do you celebrate your own Pops? Any family traditions?

No particular tradition except for a family dinner and finding my dad a new golf gadget gift!

George - 2 years old

How are you planning on celebrating this Father’s Day?

If it wasn’t for the pandemic, we would definitely have a BBQ in my backyard with family and friends. We’ll see. I love doing yardwork so I’d probably do some mulching and mow my yard too.

What’s been the best part of becoming a dad?

Being a Dad makes me want to be a better person all around and be the best role model. It’s also so much fun making them laugh and seeing how excited they get over the smallest things.

Any advice for soon-to-be dads?

Cliché to say but take time to enjoy the baby every day because time will fly. Be hands on from the beginning! Change those diapers and become an expert swaddler.

What’s been the most surprising part of becoming a dad?

It’s really a game changer. It’s a different kind of love than I’ve ever experienced and it changes how you think about all things – relationships, work, etc.

How do you celebrate your own Pops? Any family traditions?

Our tradition is to have a family BBQ for father’s day with all the fathers.

Noah Pentelovitch, Engineering

Layla – 11 months

How are you planning on celebrating this Father’s Day?

Go for a hike. I wear Layla in a front carrier on hikes and we have a great time together. We look at plants and we talk about them. She loves to play with leaves and branches.

What’s been the best part of becoming a dad?

When Layla looks at me and smiles.

Any advice for soon-to-be dads?

Be supportive of your partner. Make sure you are sharing the load as much as you can. Sometimes you’ll think you’re doing things the wrong way as a new Dad: you’re not holding her right, you can’t get her to sleep, you can’t make her stop crying, you can’t remember where you are in her sleep schedule, you put on her clothes backwards…everyone is an amateur parent. Even on a second, third, fourth kid, every parent is an amateur parent for the situation they are in. Embrace the chaos, the mistakes and know everyone is learning: you, your partner, your kid. It’s going to be fine. Billions of parents have done it before you, billions will do it after. You’re gonna be great.

What’s been the most surprising part of becoming a dad?

Comfort level with being covered in a wide variety of fluids for extended periods of time.

How do you celebrate your own Pops? Any family traditions?

Tell him how much I love and appreciate him. Remind him how great he is and ask for advice. Hopefully we can be together this year.
